Take Me Away

I know, I know, I know, I have been complaining about the Utah weather a lot… but who can help it? The air quality is horrible, it’s cold and we’re in the midst of another big snow! What better way to escape the winter wonderland than looking into the future of our Spring wardrobes. We are on the cusp of February and will soon need to prepare for Easter and warmer temperatures.

Drawing inspiration from New York Fashion Week’s debut of the Spring 2013 lines, my favorite looks entail lots of the typical: floral, nautical, pastels, dramatic neck lines and necklaces. A new trend that appeared is truly inspiring. Designers displayed fashion drawing upon the trends throughout the world. The runway looks have traces of Moroccan architecture, mariachi bands, beach scenes, Indian wedding wear, the Montauk seashore (ok, I know that isn’t a far away land) and foreign landscapes.  The colors on the runway were beautiful with lots of pinks, blues and greens. As a fan of glamour and color, the Spring 2013 shows were the best I have seen in a while.

Below are a few of my favorite looks from a variety of designers and ways to realistically incorporate the trend into your daily wardrobe. Tell me, is this a trend you’re excited to try??

Beating the Winter Blues

January is the month of blues. If you’re like me, you’re ready for winter to be over; time to put away the frumpy sweaters, see some grass on the ground and say goodbye to the snow! Don’t do anything rash though, if you look at the weather channel, it is still 30 degrees in the good ole’ state of Utah. Incorporating color into your wardrobe on these cold, dreary days can do wonders for the seasonal despair we’re all feeling right now. Out with the black, puffy, knee length coat and in with the pastels, bright colors, lace and bold patterns.

I’ve found that no matter how much you complain, you can’t melt the snow and, no matter what, people will continue to wear their big Patagonia jacket far too long into March. That doesn’t mean you have to! Nothing brings joy to my face like seeing a young lady walking down the street in a bright colored or boldly patterned, warm coat! Take a look at some of my favorites…

The Year of Emerald

The year of green. Every year, Pantone, the world renowned color experts, name a color to represent the rest of the year. The color of 2013 is emerald and I couldn’t be more excited. I recognized the potential of this color early on in my life. In high school I wore an emerald and blue ombre Cynthia Rowley dress to my sophomore year homecoming. Although the dress was beautiful, it didn’t do much for my skin tone.

I envy Julianne Moore for rocking the rich hue in Venice while promoting A Single Man. Her Tom Ford dress was to die for and she wore it with grace and elegance as the epitome of a classic fashion icon of the day.

Today, emerald is a color I am excited to see more of. For many, green is a tough color to wear. Don’t let that scare you! I for one will be exposing the color in my accessories and in my apartment. Below are a few of my favorite pieces that have and (hopefully) will be debuting in my wardrobe this year.
